The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf Story: Once upon a time, one shepherd lived in a village. He had many sheep, and he let them graze in the nearby forest. Every morning he takes his sheep to graze in the nearby forest and returns home by evening. The whole day sheep graze grasses in the forest where shepherds used to sit and watch them. He got bored because of this; he used to find new ways to entertain himself every day.
One day he came with a new prank. He thought, why not start a prank with the villagers. Thinking this, he started shouting, “Save – the wolf has come, the wolf has come.” Hearing his voice, the villagers came running to help him with sticks and axes.
As soon as the villagers reached there, they saw no wolf, and the shepherd was laughing while holding his stomach. “Hahaha, it was a lot of fun. I was joking. How come you all run, hahaha.” On hearing these words, the faces of the villagers started turning red and yellow with anger.
One of them said that we all had come here to save you after leaving our work and you are laughing? Saying this, all the people went back to their respective work. After a few days, the villagers again heard the shepherd’s voice. “Save Save The wolf came, save.” On hearing this, he again ran to help the shepherd.
When the villagers reached there, gasping, what did they see? They see the shepherd standing relaxing with his sheep and laughing out loud, looking at the villagers.
This time the villagers got angrier. All of them told a lot about the shepherd, but the shepherd did not understand. He did the same thing, two or three times, and, shouting in jest, gathered the villagers. Now the villagers had stopped trusting the shepherd.
One day the villagers were working in their fields, and again they heard the shouting of the shepherd. “Save the wolf came, save the wolf came”, but this time none of them paid attention towards him. Instead, everyone started saying that its only job is to joke like this throughout the day.
The shepherd was shouting, “Hey someone, come, help me, drive this wolf away”, but this time no one reached there to help him. The shepherd kept shouting, but the villagers didn’t come, and the wolf killed his sheep one by one. Seeing all this, the shepherd started crying.
When the shepherd didn’t come home for many nights, the villagers started finding him in the forest. On reaching there, they saw that the shepherd was sitting and crying on the tree. The villagers somehow brought him down from the tree. They saved his life that day, but all his sheep had become the prey of the wolf.
The shepherd realized his mistake and apologized to the villagers. The shepherd said, “Please forgive me, I made a big mistake by lying to all of you. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Moral of the story: This story teaches us that we should never lie. Lying is a very bad habit. Because of lying, we start losing people’s trust, and no one helps us when we really fall in trouble.
